„HaLT-Peers an Fahrschulen – Sicher unterwegs!“ ("HaLT-Peers at driving schools - safe on the road")
A workshop on preventing drink driving at driving schools
For most young adults, learning to drive coincides with a phase of life in which they experiment with alcohol and other psychoactive substances. Young adults often consume alcohol and psychoactive substances outside their own homes, e.g. in discos, pubs or at private parties, and may be tempted to drive while under the influence of alcohol. Against this background, it is important to inform this risk group about the dangers of drink-driving.
As part of the alcohol prevention programme ‘HaLT-Hart am LimiT’ (HaLT-Hard at the Limit), the workshop ‘Sicher unterwegs!’ (Safe on the road!) was therefore developed for driving schools to prevent drunk driving. Further information on the HaLT programme can be found on our website www.halt.de.
What makes it special is that the workshop is run by so-called ‘peers’ (people of the same age). Peers can act as role models and convey information, knowledge and behaviours. Due to similarities, e.g. in language, they have a different approach to the target group than professionals and are perceived as particularly convincing. The professionals at Villa Schöpflin train the peers to act as multipliers for the topic of ‘prevention of drunk driving’ and accompany them in designing the workshop.
Development
The concept of "Peer-Projekt an Fahrschulen" was first developed in 2000 by MISTEL/SPI-Forschung gGmbH in Saxony-Anhalt. Our workshop "HaLT-Peers an Fahrschulen - Sicher unterwegs!" was developed in collaboration with SUCHT.HAMBURG gGmbH – a specialist centre for addiction issues. The project "Mobile? Aber sicher!" has been successfully implemented in Hamburg since 2008 and served as a template. The concept is being implemented nationwide. Since 2024, Villa Schöpflin has been part of the Federal Interest Group on Peers at Driving Schools of the LWL (Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe).
Since 2023, the project has also been offered to driving schools in the district of Lörrach by Villa-Schöpflin gGmbh. Would you like the workshop to take place at your driving school? Take a look at our flyer "HaLT-Peers an Fahrschulen" for interested driving schools and feel free to contact us!
Objectives and target groups
„Sicher unterwegs!“ is a workshop on preventing drink-driving and is aimed at learner drivers. It is run by peers who have been trained by Villa Schöpflin.
In the „Sicher unterwegs!“workshop:
- learner drivers are encouraged to make a clear distinction between substance use and participating in road traffic,
- the knowledge, awareness and self-reflection of new drivers on the topic of ‘drink driving’ is increased,
- the aim is to strengthen the options for action (alternatives to drink driving),
- and to enable learner drivers to deal responsibly with future conflicts between drinking and driving.
Structure
Implementation
The regional implementation in the district of Lörrach is carried out by HaLT peers trained by Villa Schöpflin. Thanks to funding from the GKV Alliance for Health, the workshop can be offered free of charge.
The interactive workshop is scheduled to last 60-90 minutes.
