For exactly ten years, the vocational school for nursing at the clinics in the district of Lörrach and Villa Schöpflin – Center for Addiction Prevention – have been working together to implement a proven addiction prevention measure in the training of nursing professionals. All trainees in the general nursing program regularly take part in a seminar on the topic of “addiction prevention” – a central component that combines theory and practice in a valuable way.
“Dealing with the topic of addiction is very important for prospective nursing professionals,” emphasize school principals Lilian Fischer and Heidi Flaxmeier. "In their future everyday working lives, our trainees will often encounter people who are confronted with risky consumption or addiction. The seminar not only imparts knowledge, but also strengthens our own attitude and sensitivity towards this important topic.“ Trainee Michél agrees: ”I recognize addiction issues more quickly and can respond in a more confident and structured manner. In particular, [...] the importance of value-free communication accompanies me in my everyday life."
The school principals would particularly like to highlight the long-standing and reliable cooperation with Villa Schöpflin: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to the entire team for their great commitment, professional competence, and openness with which they treat our trainees. This cooperation has become a valuable part of nursing training for us.” With practical exercises, illustrative examples, and discussions on an equal footing, Villa Schöpflin succeeds in sensitizing young people to the topic of addiction prevention—both in a professional and personal context.
Villa Schöpflin is also grateful for the vocational school's commitment and long-standing cooperation. “Through their attention and sensitivity to the topic, nursing professionals make a valuable contribution to prevention,” says Lena Butter, prevention specialist and seminar leader.
“We are very pleased to continue this important collaboration in the future,” say Fischer and Flaxmeier. “Because prevention begins with awareness, and Villa Schöpflin makes an indispensable contribution to this.”
