FASD Conference in Fulda

Villa Schöpflin at the 2026 FASD Conference

09/05/2026

On September 5, 2026, Villa Schöpflin participated in the 27th FASD Symposium organized by FASD Deutschland e. V. in Fulda with a workshop.

Under the title “FASD Prevention in Everyday Clinical Practice: Addressing the Issue Sensitively, Providing Effective Support, Taking Practical Action,” the workshop focused on how prevention can be successfully implemented in everyday medical practice. FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) refers to a range of lifelong impairments that can be caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy. FASD is completely preventable by abstaining from alcohol during pregnancy.

Often, the issue is not a lack of knowledge about the risks of alcohol during pregnancy—the real challenge lies in addressing the topic sensitively and providing appropriate support. Using concrete conversation scenarios, Ramona Hauger (prevention specialist) and Ellen Hipp (Director of the HaLT Service Center) demonstrated how even a respectful attitude and individual elements of motivational interviewing can make a difference.

They also provided an overview of the new CME-certified online continuing education course on FASD prevention for gynecologists, which was developed by Villa Schöpflin - Zentrum für Suchtprävention. The training program combines knowledge about FASD and alcohol consumption during pregnancy with concrete approaches to counseling, prevention, and practical implementation in everyday gynecological care.

We would like to thank FASD Deutschland e. V. for giving us the opportunity to address the topic of prevention at the symposium and for the professional exchange!
